Rock & Roll, British Invasion & AM Pop

This is a list of the 5-star rock & roll, British Invasion & blue-eyed soul albums on AllMusic. If you are interested in viewing other genre-specific lists of 5-star albums, click here.

Albums didn’t become the standard form of artistic expression in rock and roll until after it had been around for a decade, so many of the pioneering artists of the ’50s and early ’60s never released a great album, sadly. There are, however, some key compilations, such as Elvis Presley’s The Sun Sessions (1976) and Sunrise (1999), which collect his Sun recordings before he moved to RCA. It has been said by many that rock & roll was invented when they start playing “That’s All Right,” which you can find on both comps.

Anyway, here are the best rock and roll albums from before the psychedelic era, presented in the order in which they were released. I have linked both the artists and albums to their respective AllMusic pages for easy perusal. Let me know if there are any albums I have left out.
