My Favorite Things (March 1961), anchored by the Rodgers and Hammerstein show tune of the same name, would become one of John Coltrane's most commercially successful releases and the first album of his career to feature the talented musician and composer playing the soprano sax on record. The album marked a major turning point for Coltrane, featuring a modal approach that opened new harmonic and emotional space in his music. His hypnotic interpretation of the title track became an unexpected hit, while standards like "Summertime" and "Every Time We Say Goodbye" showcased the expressive depth of his new quartet.

Coltrane's classic Atlantic album 1961 gets the Rhino Reserve treatment. This is his first recorded use of the soprano sax which he would go on to play extensively until the end. The modal exploration of the title track is something he would return to in live performances for the rest of his career. Cut by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab and pressed on 180-gram black vinyl at Fidelity Record Pressing.

Musicians:
John Coltrane, soprano sax, tenor sax
McCoy Tyner, piano
Steve Davis, bass
Elvin Jones, drums
